Boss Hoss Custom Trike
In 2003, I purchased a 1997 Boss Hoss, clutch model, 350 cid, 355 hp. Very quickly I found that it was not a good vehicle to ride around town as a clutch model. It would have been better as an automatic. I decided to store the bike until I could get time to do a conversion to a trike. Boss does their own trike in several versions but I wanted mine to be a one of a kind. In July 0f 2009 I decided to use the pan from a Jeep Wrangler as the back end. The differential is Chevy C10 with a positraction .273 gears. I used Ford Explorer disc brakes for the back. I started with a 700R4 transmission from a cash for clunker vehicle. It is the 4 speed automatic. I found out very soon that the tranny was defective so I had to make a change. I switched to a turbo 350 which is the 3 speed. I still have the 700R4 and it could be rebuilt and put back in to give better gear ratio in overdirve. I did the modification so that the transmission drops out the bottom and the bike does not have to be split into 2 pieces. I use a Holley carb with the turbo 350 but the original Rochester would have to be reinstalled if the change was made back to the 4 speed tranny. I originally moved the radiator to the back for looks and trying to move the heat rearward. That ended up not working so well, so I purchased a second radiator and put one back in the front. It now cools with 2 radiators, 2 fans, the pump runs separately from the fans, the fans are switched so that during cold weather riding, they can be turned off and the radiators just cooled naturally. The coolant pump was changed from a 15 gpm to a 30 gpm. I also found a different triple tree that had more rake and put it in to help with the steering. I purchased 3 new wheels and tires that Boss uses for their trikes. The seat in the pan was moved back about 8 inches and raised so to give more leg room for passengers. There are seat belts so 2 passengers can ride in the back. The jack is stored under the rear radiator cover and there is room under the rear seat for tool boxes. There are 2 spares under the cover on the back, a standard wheel for the back and the original front wheel and tire that came with the bike. The jeep fuel tank is used in the rear and fuel is moved by electric pump, I added a fuel guage which does quite well, the tank holds about 18 gal. of fuel. The original gas tank is now just for looks. The parts that I removed from the bike to do the modification are still available to go with the sale. These include rear fender, luggage rack, chrome swing arm, bell housing and angle drive with the pulley and belt. The original rear wheel and tire, brake rotor and caliper. I have the Boss manual plus notes that I have kept for changes. It is very stable on the road but because it is a V8, fuel mileage is what you expect from that same engine in a car or truck. The conversion weighs about 2200 lb. I have ended up with some sort of auto immune disorder that has brought on great pain in my shoulders, arms and hands so I need to sell because I cannot handle the steering. I even have discomfort riding my 2 wheeler. The trike is offered for $29,500 or best offer. I also have a transmission jack that will go with the sale. The battery and transmission cooler are under the seat. The shifter is B and M, mounted on the left side behind the front floor boards. I took pictures of the build so that web page is included for you to look at. I did not get pictures of the second radiator installation on the page so that is not shown.
